Stump treatment

The skin of the prostheses is subject to special and unavoidable stress, protection and prevention are particularly important. The cosmetic line of DERMA of the company OTTOBOCK offers skin care products specially adapted for the needs of the stump but also of your intention and is intended for daily use.

Before applying your artificial limb, apply with the administration of a few drops of DERMA PREVENT, which protects and rejuvenates the skin's natural protection and acts as a protective film to limit skin contact with external allergens. Reduces sweating, eliminates odor and keeps skin soft. Caution the execution should be done at least 10 minutes before the application of the prosthesis so that it is well absorbed by the skin and dries. Not suitable for wounds and irritated skin. Please shake before each use.

After removing your prosthesis, you should preferably wash the stump with warm water and mild soap before going to bed. Then dry well with a clean, non-abrasive towel. If skin folds or scars have formed, they should be taken intensive care to prevent infections.

Check carefully for signs of infection such as:

• Warm, red or very soft skin
• Disposal of liquid or pus
• Unusual swelling

In case of irritation from prolonged use, it is recommended to apply a thin layer of DERMA REPAIR, which helps regenerate skin cells and moisturizes dry skin. Repairs the harmful effects of abrasion and soothes irritated skin. Contains panthenol and vitamin E to reduce itching and inflammation of the skin. The antibacterial formula helps the defense system by improving the hydration and moisture of the skin. Regular massage with a few drops in the palm of your hand, has a positive effect on the condition of the stump, stimulating blood circulation.

In addition to caring for the stump, your prosthesis must also be cleaned daily. You can avoid skin irritation by having a clean skin contact surface. After removing the silicone, turn the liner outwards and wipe it with a clean damp cloth to remove sweat residue and skin particles. Apply the gentle cleansing lotion DERMA CLEAN with neutral PH and free from alkalis and phosphates where they make it safe with most materials, including additional investments without worrying about causing damage. Rinse with water and wipe with a clean, dry cloth. For best results it is recommended to let the silicone air dry before using it again. Avoid high temperatures.

In the same way, clean the inside of your prosthesis.
