The beach of K.A.A.P.B. has been configured, and has all the necessary equipment, so that it is accessible and safe from the disabled. while it is the only one that provides the possibility of entry-exit movement in the sea to people with mobility problems

Two security guards, two general-service workers and two lifeguards provide services in this area. The two of them end directly in the sea and the third ends in a platform with a ladder that is additionally equipped with an electric chair that raises them and lowers them into the water. This device is always used by a lifeguard.

Lifeguards also have at their disposal all the equipment provided by the P.D. 23/2000 (Owners' obligations for the bathing facilities) such as a pharmacy, lifeboat, lifebuoys, resuscitation device, Oxygen, chairs with special wheels for moving in the sand, etc. To protect the bathers from the sun, in addition to the three concrete umbrellas that existed, kiosks and umbrellas have been installed. They are accessible with ramps for wheelchair users.

The users of our beach also have the opportunity to take a shower in the outdoor shower, but also to take a bath and change in the two specially designed and equipped for the disabled. bathrooms. As far as the patients of our center are concerned, a summer swimming program has been organized in collaboration with the volunteers of the S.C.I. (Service Civil International).

The procedures followed are the following:

  • Doctors select children and inform volunteers about particular health problems and give instructions.
  • The person in charge of the volunteers prepares a weekly program and determines the day and the volunteer who will be responsible for coordinating and conducting the bathing on that day.
  • From 8.30 p.m. the heads of the wards are informed, so that the children are ready at 9.30 a.m. so that each one is picked up by the person who has been appointed and goes down to the beach, where he will swim until 11am at the latest.
  • The use of a hat and sunscreen is mandatory.
  • There are also water baths and afternoons for children who have special approval from doctors.
  • Finally, we note that before the program begins, volunteers are trained for this program and the ratio that is observed each time is ten to thirteen volunteers for ten children.
  • As far as the sea baths of the external visitors are concerned, they are provided with all the possibilities of using the facilities with the difference that they are responsible for the escort and not the K.A.A.P.B.
